We explored and discussed how to leverage two major California reform efforts—the California Community Schools Partner Program (CCSPP) and Children’s System of Care (AB2083). These initiatives present an opportunity to improve practice and develop sustainable systems that support healthy development and success in school for children and youth.

In 2021, the CCSPP received more than $4 billion to grant seed funding for district, county, and charter community school initiatives and for statewide technical assistance. The goal is to serve the whole child by organizing resources across the community to support student success. Systems of Care also aim to provide comprehensive support to children and families and rely on a cross-sector, interagency approach to design, implementation, and sustainability. If aligned and well-integrated, these two related efforts are much more likely to meet ambitious goals and meaningfully improve outcomes for children and youth.
